Reboot methods for Windows
There are several methods to restart a computer running the Windows operating system:

- method two. If a system failure has paralyzed the computer almost completely (plus the hardware has failed), then you need to call the task manager using the combination “Ctrl+Alt+Del”.

"Alt" + "F4"

- then a small dialog box called “Shut down Windows” will appear on the screen. If during a failure the mouse does not respond to commands, then use the “Up” or “Down” arrows on the keyboard to select the required mode.
Win+C (for Windows 8/8.1)
For those users who have the Windows 8/8.1 operating system installed, you can restart the computer using the keyboard using the “Win + C” combination.

You can reboot not only using key combinations, but also through the command line. This option is suitable for owners of Windows XP/Vista/7/8 and 8.1 operating systems.
To restart the system via the command line, you need to perform a series of sequential actions:
- after the command line window appears on the screen, you must enter the following commands: “shutdown -t 0 -r –f” (“-r” - is responsible for restarting the system “-f” - the parameter is responsible for forcibly stopping all running processes, the “-t 0” command is responsible for an instant reboot without closing processes);
- then press the Enter key to confirm your selection.

The third method is suitable exclusively for the Windows XP operating system:
- First you need to call the command line;
- then enter the command “rundll32 user.exe, ExitWindowsExec 2” and press “Enter”.

How to restart your computer using the keyboard if it's frozen
You can restart your PC not only using the mouse, but also using the keyboard.
During operation, the PC may freeze, for example, due to a lack of memory, in which resource-intensive applications simply run out of RAM. Another reason for freezing may be a system failure, which occurs due to driver conflicts, registry errors, or improper functioning of applications.
Partially
If the computer is only partially frozen (that is, some equipment, such as a mouse, responds to commands), you can perform a restart using standard methods:
From the Start menu:
"Ctrl+Alt+Del":
- you need to type the desired combination on the keyboard;
- then a dialog box will appear in which you need to select “Shutdown Options” at the bottom right side and click “Reboot” in the drop-down menu.
"Alt+F4":
- first you need to type the combination “Alt+F4”;
- then the “Shut down Windows” window will appear;
- then you need to activate the “Reboot” mode.

In the event that the operation of the computer is completely paralyzed and the mouse does not obey, it is necessary to use more radical methods of restarting the frozen computer.
"Ctrl+Alt+Del":
The second method is to press the “Reset” key on the front side of the system unit. This method is the most radical of all existing ones, as it entails the complete loss of unsaved data. It will be relevant only if the computer is completely frozen and the equipment (keyboard and mouse) does not respond to commands.

Method 4: Desktop Shortcuts
You can make a special shortcut to restart your computer. In this case, it will be activated by double clicking. To do this, go to any folder or desktop. In the free field, press RMB. Then select “Create – Shortcut”. Enter the following into the box that appears:
shutdown /r /f /t 00
Then you need to specify a name for the shortcut; you can enter any name, for example, Restart. When you double click on it, the system will restart.
Note: in the command the / attributet with a digital suffix indicates the time until the PC restarts. The example shows a value of zero, but you can set any delay (recorded in seconds).
Practically no different from what was in earlier versions of operating systems. The operating system, as before, loads only the most basic drivers and services. The only difference is that the minimum screen resolution in Safe Mode has increased from 800x600 pixels to 1024x768 pixels.

In Windows 8, but not in Windows 8.1, you can create a system repair disk and boot from it.
After booting from the recovery disk, you will be prompted to select a keyboard layout. Select the one you want to use. You will then see the options screen. All further steps will be identical to those described in the method above.
Windows 8, Windows 8.1 allow you to create a system repair disk on a USB drive. Detailed instructions can be read. Using such a disk you can also boot the operating system in safe mode. To do this, boot from your System Recovery USB drive and follow the instructions from the previous method.
(does not work when using UEFI BIOS and SSD)
In Windows 7, it was enough to press F8 just before starting the operating system to get to a menu with additional boot options, from where you can boot the operating system in safe mode.
For Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, some sources advise using the keyboard shortcut ⇑ Shift + F8, which launches recovery mode, allowing you to boot into safe mode. However, the problem is that neither ⇑ Shift + F8, not just F8 often don't work.
On its official blog, Microsoft explains that this behavior is due to the very fast boot process. Steve Sinofsky said: There is a problem in Windows 8. It loads too quickly, so quickly that you don't actually have time to interrupt it when you turn on your computer. The operating system simply does not have time to detect pressing the F2 or F8 keys.
If you have a modern computer with UEFI BIOS And SSD, it is unlikely that you will be able to interrupt the boot process by pressing keys. On older computers with a classic BIOS and without an SSD, pressing these keys still works.
If you want to reboot your laptop, you probably want to do it right.
Therefore, next we will look at the reason for the reboot and subsequent actions.
Why do you need a reboot?
Rebooting the laptop is designed to unload residual process data from the computer's RAM.
In fact, the main task of a reboot is to reset the device state to its original values.
A reboot differs from a shutdown in that the data is completely unloaded.
This means that when you turn off the laptop, the RAM is completely cleared of data, while rebooting may save some of it.
Reboot is also used to deeply configure the computer and operating system.
Sequencing

If your laptop does not restart after these steps, then a blocking process is running.
After several reboot attempts, you can physically turn off the laptop by pressing the Power key.
Remember that a push-button shutdown may affect the integrity of the operating system, so only use a push-button shutdown when the laptop is frozen and will not restart.

Disabling Windows 8 via Charms Bar
Microsoft has provided shutdown and restart buttons for Windows 8, according to Settings in the Charms Bar. To show the Charms Bar, press Win+C to open the Charms Bar and then press the Settings button. Alternatively, press Win+I, Settings will open.
